As you may know, Windows 8 has introduced a new format for themes - *.deskthemepack files. For example, almost all Panoramic themes in official Microsoft theme gallery are deskthemepack files. Deskthemepack Installer is unique solution for Windows 7 users which allows to install Windows 8 themes with one click.
Deskthemepack Installer does not work in Windows 7 Home Basic and Starter. I will implement support of those editions of Windows 7 with next major release of Personalization Panel 3.0. Please be patient.
Deskthemepack Installer does not provide autocolorization of window frames and/or panoramic view of wallpapers like in Windows 8. It just converts Windows 8 themes into format compatible with Windows 7.
Even you are free to place Deskthemepack Installer anywhere you want, in any folder, you should keep in mind the following: if you have set the *.deskthemepack files association and then moved DeskthemepackInstaller.exe to another folder, your associations will be broken - Windows will be not able to find it. To fix the issue, you have to run Deskthemepack Installer from new location and click the Remove *.deskthemepack associations button and then click Associate with *.deskthemepack files again.
A new file format, .themepack, was introduced with Windows 7 to help users share themes. Themes can be selected in the Personalization Control Panel only in Windows 7 Home Premium or higher, or only on Windows Server 2008 R2 when the Desktop component is installed.

Nothing is yet concrete about what exactly Windows 8 will look like as a final product, but thanks to leaked documents, the team over at WindowsValley has put together a theme which resembles what Windows 7 could look like. This is a theme pack for Windows 7 users (32-bit or 64-bit) and features a few different rotating backgrounds featuring the new Windows slogan "Be what's next."This theme uses the built-in sound scheme called "Afternoon" and the wallpapers feature a logo none of us are quite used to.Overall it looks nice but doesn't include any flashy transitions some might be expecting (as Windows 8 hasn't even been finished, yet).Compatibility and LicenseIs Windows 8 theme for Windows 7 free to download?Windows 8 theme for Windows 7 is provided under a freeware license on Windows from desktop enhancement software with no restrictions on usage. I have been experimenting about changing the windows theme via command line and I learned that by executing the theme file it is being applied by the Windows 10 as well. So in your batch file, you could use one of the following lines:
I believe the best you can do is open your target .msstyles file (in c:\windows\resources\themes), which will pop up the display properties box. At this point you could use window subclassing to programmatically click the right buttons.
The code snippet below extracts a file from resource (a themepack). Then executes the desk.cpl with rundll32.exe, waits 3 sceonds, then sends WM_CLOSE (0x0010), waits for the command to be process (the time it takes for the theme to be set).
I have install p7zip-full and p7zip-rar packages to help me in this situation, but default archive of Ubuntu file-roller can not open "Windows 7 theme pack" files, which uses .themepack extensions. How can I open this type of file or is there any known method to do that in Ubuntu. In Windows "7zip" program can open this kind of file easily. I am using Ubuntu 11.10
Then either run cabextract name.themepack (replacing name with the name of the theme pack filename before the .themepack extension), or configure the Archive Manager to open .cab files and open it graphically from Nautilus.
While in Windows 7 the default format for desktop themes used the THEMEPACK file extension, Windows 8 themes use the DESKTHEMEPACK file extension. THEMEPACK packages contain jpg wallpapers usually in 1920x1200 resolution, while DESKTHEMEPACK packages contain images in 3840x1200 resolution.
Once you have the package extracted you will see a *.theme file used to configuration the package in Windows, as well as DesktopBackground folder that contains all those lovely large images.
On the next screen click on the Browse... next to the by default selected Windows Desktop Backgrounds option and browse to the DekstopBackground folder you extracted from the *.deskthemepack file.
If you want to export your new theme to a THEMEPACK package, select the Save theme for sharing option and specify the file name and where your new *.themepack file should be saved on your disk.
We would have loved for Microsoft to allow us to customize the Metro start menu background through the theme packs but unfortunately, they only allow users to change the color of the backgrounds from the few provided in the consumer preview. We are hoping this would change in the final release.

WindowsX team typically develops two kinds of theme packs. One kind is Transformations Pack and another is UX Pack. As both is for nearly same purpose, when you are going to download and install any of these theme packs on your Windows, it may come to your mind that which should I get? Transformations or UX pack? Actually Transformation Packs is a complete solution which will modify your system files (of course you can revert back) to give you more native experience, where UX pack, as it sounds, will not modify system files, rather give you mentioned User Experience in limited form. So if you want to fully integrate the theme pack, go for Transformation Pack. UX pack gives you less risk of damaging system. Also, UX Packs has slightly smaller installer size than Transformation Packs.
Though these theme packs are risk free and much easier to install and uninstall than earlier versions, before you proceed to install, I strongly recommend to created a system restore point on your Windows so that your can come back to previous state if something bad happens. As I said earlier, Transformations pack will modify some system files.
Over the years, the developers of Transformation Packs has made it easier to install their themes. And today, their installer packs handles everything that need to be installed, patched and configured. So the theme will instantly be ready after install. The only hassle is you might need to restart your PC. In this guide, I will install Yosemite Transformation Pack on my Windows 8.1 to theme it like Yosemite on Mac.
Windows 8 sports a new start screen, Windows Explorer and host of new features. The developer preview version is already popular and if you want to get the Windows 8 style on your good old Windows XP, then here is a nice skin pack for the same. 8 Skin Pack for XP brings in the Windows 8 styled Start screen, shell styles, icons, boot logo, buttons, Windows explorer etc to Windows XP. Just install the app on your Windows XP and once you restart it, the new look will be enabled. The theme pack is pretty safe to use as it has an option to back up all your files which it modifies. In case you are trying out this pack, please do create a system restore point on Windows XP. 2ff7e9595c
